TEXAS MONTHLY MAGAZINE FEATURES CAMPFIRE QUILTS
Grab the December issue of Texas Monthly and curl up by the fire for some good reading as this months "Made in Texas" column by Lauren Smith Ford features an interview with Campfire Quilts' founder Ebony Porter
"Quilting by hand adds so much value to the quilt in so many ways. I think in a world where most of our products are machine made, there is something romantic about building a product that comes to fruition slowly. My love and devotion to this old craft is seen in those imperfect human stitches."

Quilting By Hand:
An Ongoing Homage to My Lineage, My Spirit & Other Things
I need healthy hands,
I need a healthy spirit,
I need my memories,
I need my lineage that built quilts, gardens, lace, businesses, children & sheep skin moccasins,
I need my family healthy,
I need my 8 month baby in utero to be born healthy,
I need my friends healthy,
I need protection from the arthritis I am bound to inherit,
I need protection from the dementia I am bound to inherit.
That is all I need.

ART YOU CAN SLEEP WITH
by Michael Hardy
Houstonia Magazine
October 24, 2014
Ebony Porter wants you to sleep with her art. No, not have sex with it—she isn’t that kind of artist—but literally sleep with it, on it, under it, wrapped up in it. In fact, if you buy one of the five hand-sewn quilts on display at Porter’s new show, which opens at Arturo Palacios’s Art Palace Gallery in Midtown on Saturday night, you can do pretty much whatever you damn well please with it.

EXHIBITION at THE JUNG CENTER of HOUSTON
Calm West is a new suite of paintings by Houston artist Ebony Porter that focuses on the light, space and energy of America’s west. Alluring and dramatic, this empty, often silent landscape provides the foundation for Porter’s abstract works as she attempts to bring the calm side of the "wild West" to the Jung Center of Houston.
Fellow Houston artist Joan Sun will also be exhibiting her latest work TIME TRAVELERS
Exhibition dates: April 1 - April 29, 2014
Opening Reception: Saturday, April 5, 2014,
5:00 - 7:00pm
The Jung Center
5200 Montrose Blvd., Houston, TX 77006
www.junghouston.org
The C. G. Jung Educational Center of Houston, Texas, Inc., was founded in 1958 by a group of women who had been studying the works of the Swiss psychiatrist Dr. Carl Gustav Jung. In 1954, Ruth Thacker Fry, after completing three years of study at the Jung Institute in Zurich, began lecturing in Houston on Jung’s depth psychology. After four years of study, a group of her students were motivated to found The Jung Center. Carolyn Grant Fay, Ethel Carradine Kurth, Alma Owen Lloyd and Ella Rice Winston chartered the Center as a Texas nonprofit educational institution in 1958, and to this day remains unique in America. With a rich and diverse program dedicated to self-discovery, community outreach, and spiritual enlargement, it is the one Jungian organization devoted primarily to serving the general public.

THE JESUS TACO releases "FOLKUHILA" on WEAK RECORDS
Release December 31st, 2010 - The Jesus Taco releases "Folkuhila" on Weak Records. Dubbed one of the most quintessentially post-modern but historically folk-inspired records of the decade by Bobby Vacant, the album defies any simple genre or classification. The album was mastered by renowned Indie recording engineer Jason Ward in Chicago, Illinois.
Folkuhila is a series of road trip recordings from Castle Rock, Colorado; Houston, Texas; Chesterfield County, Virginia; La Hulpe Belgium; Winterthur, Switzerland; and Ulfsryd, Sweden. The songs are an eclectic mix of warm acoustic guitars, octave mandolins, ukuleles, rich vocal harmonies, and dreamy surrealistic interludes. This all fused with sonic depth and bold experimentation. Lucid culture has described the work by lead singer and poet-songwriter Brett Davidson (USA) as something that cynically litanizes a series of mundane and not-so-mundane projects that might be possible with a little respite. But respite only leads to hard work, and this can be attested by Taco co-members Sascha Greuter (Switzerland) on acoustic & electric guitars and other-worldly sound effects, and Tyko Runesson (Sweden) on mandolin, guitars, blues harp and backing vocals.
Ebony Porter is a musical contributor on track 5 "The Heights" and track 19 "Ebony Howl."
